Being so near the recently reopened Canadian border in Seattle, I get a COVID test and head North! Crossing the border is easy with correct documentation (including Knox's rabies vaccination info).
My favorite part of being in British Columbia is experiencing the lushness of the temperate rainforest. I am in Vancouver for 2 days, and it is quite stormy/rainy, but I am able to experience a really fun hike in an off-leash forest with a friend connection through Annie. I can't get over how amazing the trees are, the lushness of the forest and the fresh tree smell. Knox has a fantastic time with all the new scents, and lots of friendly pups.
I leave Vancouver to venture further into British Columbia. Because all the campsites are exclaiming about bears (I am not interested in using my bear spray on an actual bear), I find a VRBO cabin to rent in Roberts Creek, on the Sunshine Coast. A place I have never heard of! The trip entails a short drive to the Vancouver Horseshoe Bay Ferry, and a 40 minute car ferry ride to Langdale Sunshine Coast ferry landing. Luckily I had experienced the car ferry with Braden in Seattle, so I know what to do! It is wild driving your car onto a huge boat, with the capacity to hold 308 cars, and many more passengers! How sophisticated! We sail through and land in lush paradise.
I think this is a legit creek (it is loud) but the cabin hosts say it is just rain runoff.
I easily find the cabin, and get settled in. We take long walks with the friendly neighbor dog, visit the beach, and explore a nearby rainforest park, where a woman and her huskie show us the route! There is also lots of reading, resting and hot baths. I am thinking a lot about rest, not just sleeping but having days upon days of no agenda, just living. It feels uncomfortable at times, but also important for me to explore and embrace.
I feel absolutely surprised and delighted to "discover" this area, unknown to me completely. The landscape has me transfixed. I realize all I really want to do is walk and walk in the beauty.
This huge stump is moving in the flow of a waterfall.
On the return ferry ride, the sun is out. The tree covered mountains and water are stunning.
I head back to the United States, and toward Oregon!
